The Department of Pediatrics at CHEO, University of Ottawa is recruiting family medicine physicians starting in January 2024.
The Department of Pediatrics is affiliated with CHEO, the CHEO Research Institute and the University of Ottawa. The Department of Pediatrics provides health care to newborns, children and youth of the Ottawa area, as well as those from Eastern Ontario, Western Quebec, Nunavut and parts of Northern Ontario (population of approximately 1.8 million). There are approximately 3000 admissions annually. Encountered conditions are widely varied, including children with medical complexity, as well as those with common pediatric illnesses.
The Division of Pediatric Medicine is recruiting family medicine physicians to staff their Streamlined Care Team (SCT). Candidates are expected to provide Most Responsible Physician (MRP) care for inpatients with expected short stay or non-complex medical conditions There is an opportunity to engage in medical education, focusing on supervising family medicine residents, and medical students. On-service duties are Monday to Friday, 8am to 4pm. There is no weekend or after-hour care expected, as this will be covered by the pediatric team. We are requesting availability of approximately 1 in 4 weeks, but flexible arrangements are available. Compensation is through a weekly stipend.
Onboarding education surrounding the management of common pediatric conditions is provided, with mentorship available for FM hospitalists. EPIC-EMR full training will be provided.
Preferred candidates will possess great interdisciplinary collaboration skills. Must be Family Medicine (CCFP) trained, or Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada certified (or equivalent), and ideally have hospitalist experience. English language fluency required, French fluency an advantage. Must possess independent licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario (CPSO), and be in good standing with the CMPA.
