- Other Details Upcoming news is that we may be getting funding for a RN to support with prenatal and postpartum clinic visits, as well as run group visits. In addition, we have the support of the SPH Foundation to raise $2 million dollars over 5 years to support a program for enhanced pregnancy and postpartum supports for first time moms including access to a doula, mental health supports etc. This is ongoing and if you are interested in QI/program development – we would welcome your input.
We are looking for maternity leave coverage (May 2023-Sept 2024, partial coverage OK) and are also recruiting for permanent physicians at St. Paul’s Maternity Clinic
The St. Paul’s Primary Care Maternity Clinic is looking for new locum and new permanent physicians.
St. Paul’s Hospital is located in Vancouver, BC which is a great place to live and work.
For our locum physicians we would like a commitment of at least 2 clinic days and 2 call days per month averaged over the year. For permanent physicians, we schedule you once per week, alternating clinic and call. For example, the first Monday of the month would be a clinic day and the second Monday of the month would be a call day etc. Weekend commitment is approximately 1 24-hour weekend call shift per 6 weeks. Regular physicians are also expected to cover at least 1 stat holiday per year.
Our clinic is located in St. Paul’s Hospital, a 5 minute walk from our maternity unit, we have two lovely administrative staff and do not pay overhead. Appointments are booked every 20 minutes from 8:30-4:30 M, T, W and F and from 12-6pm on Thursdays. The hours are flexible. We book patients every 20 minutes (30 for complete physical examinations). Take home pay is typically around $800-1000/clinic.
Call is done from home. If you are on day call you are responsible for rounding on the postpartum dyads in the morning to ensure timely discharge. As well, you are responsible for managing the inbox of results, including calling patient to follow-up abnormal results (this typically results in some income through phone calls etc. through the day). If you are interested, virtual appointments and virtual intake appointments can be added to your call day in advance (not mandatory). We typically deliver approximately 25-30 patients per month. Billing on call is fee for service with no overhead. Nurses are able to discharge patients in early labour.
Currently we have a full time staff of eight physicians who are very supportive and happy to mentor around clinic/hospital processes, as well as clinical questions and billing etc. As well, we have an excellent collaborative relationship with our colleagues at SPH including nurses (including complex care case management), lactation consultants, obstetricians, pediatricians, internal medicine, and our own breastfeeding clinic and lactation consultant (which runs in our clinic space Mondays and Fridays).
