The region has multiple family practice clinics which offer a variety of in clinic services as well as opportunities to create a schedule that suits your needs and those of your family. The collegiality between the clinics is inspiring as clinics support the Creston Valley Hospital (CVH) a 20-bed Acute Care Hospital with an active 24-hour Emergency Department and 2 long term care homes in the Town. All Creston GP’s provide routine clinical care within the practices of their medical clinic, and provide approximately 1:11 on call emergency services. Acute patient services at CVH include GP Surgery/Anesthesia/Low Risk Obstetrics, inpatient services, and Dialysis. Local Diagnostics are provided through laboratory services, imaging, ultrasound. Support departments at the hospital include pharmacy, dietary, physiotherapy and occupational therapy as well as other ancillary services. The Hospital also hosts visiting specialists to limit patient travel.

- Schedule Description Flexibility in practice style is available, with potential mix of in person and telephone appointments. Clinic hours vary by practice. Emergency coverage is: 7am-3pm, 3pm-11pm, 11-7pm with roughly 40 patients a day.

- On-Call/After Hour Requirements The 24 Emergency Room is staffed in 8 hour shifts and all Family Physicians in Creston participate in the call schedule. The group is extremely collegial and back-up is available if required with on-call GP/A and GP/S as required. Call is currently approximately 1:11

- Community / Neighbourhood Creston is a vibrant community with 5,800 residents (15,000 in the catchment area). Historically a retirement area with a wide flat farming valley for reminiscent of the prairies without the cold winters! The Valley offers a farm to table lifestyle with a thriving farmers market, a multitude of fruit and vegetable stands, wineries, breweries and more. Options for u-pick cherries, peaches, strawberries, blueberries abound. In the spring the Valley is a major supplier for asparagus and can be purchased direct from the field. The Kootenay Lake, located 20 minutes to the north, offers a variety of water activities from sailing to, power boating, waterskiing, tubing, fishing and of course swimming. We have a scenic golf course with the longest golf season in the region. Open March – October every round is a challenge! Education is a strong focus in Creston. There are four elementary schools serving the town itself and the outlying rural communities. Creston also has a large support network for parents who choose to home school their children. Kootenay River Secondary School (KRSS) offers a full range of pre-university courses, as well as several innovative apprenticeship programs. Extra- curricular programs include competitive basketball and volleyball teams, and strong drama and fine arts programs. KRSS graduates have gone on to attend and excel at universities, colleges and technical schools across the country. The Creston and District Community Complex offers programs for youth in the areas of sports including swim club, soccer, baseball, hockey, figure skating, and so much more! In the Creston Valley there are music lessons, dance lessons, and summer naturalist camps for youngsters. Guides and Scouts are both active in the community, as is the 4-H club for young farmers. There’s an abundance of things to do in and around the Creston Valley. Your kids will love it here, and so will you!
